These patent leather oxford pumps by Burberry (above) are $750 at Nordstrom. Why pay that when you can get the same look from Newport News without breaking the bank…they’re only $39 on sale.
Footwear and accessories designer, Steve Madden, is branching out into women’s apparel. What should we expect to see from the women’s line? Well, it is reported that we’ll see clothing with a bohemian theme, pixie dresses and boyfriend jackets with exposed zippers and special hardware detailing…just to give a little taste.
Madden is partnering with L’Koral Industries to produce the line, which is expected to launch in spring 2010. L’Koral is a veteran in the industry. The company has previously designed apparel for LaRok, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen’s line Elizabeth and James, and Patterson J. Kincaid. L’Koral also distributes its various brands to both the mass market sector, including Walmart, JCPenney, and Kohl’s, and high-end retailers like Neiman Marcus and Barneys New York.
“I’m very excited about creating trend-right ready-to-wear for the Steve Madden customer,” said Madden, who founded the brand 19 years ago. Madden also operates as chief executive officer for the company.
If his clothes are anything like his footwear and accessories, they are likely to be very fashionable and trendy. I know that I’m excited to see what he puts out…are you?
Jennifer Lopez’s Harve Leger (a BCBG company) dress costs $3800. This must be a loaner from BCBG. And the boots are $1148. That’s utter ridiculousness!! Not that I wouldn’t appreciate such a fine garment…it’s just that I can’t afford it. Frankly, I don’t know anyone who can. I found another version of the outfit.

You may have noticed that I tell you about various trends to follow. Well now I’m here to tell you about a trend to avoid. In fall 2009 the trend to avoid is very broad shoulder pads. With top designers like Stella McCartney designing blazers with high, broad shoulder pads, it’s hard to avoid the style. But this particular style is very unflattering to women…at least, in my opinion. They make us look like football players, hockey players, or some other type of athlete…and who needs that??
With that said, I firmly believe in that old saying “to each his own”, so below are a few choices just in case you really like the look…despite what I say.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t really find a lot of budget-friendly tops or blazers so I just provided what I could find. BEWARE, the majority of these choices are not budget-friendly…I repeat, the majority of these choices are not budget-friendly!!
